Ilmassa on sähköä. Kissat ritisevät kävelleessään. Ja niiden turkkiin on tarttunut roskia. Harjaaminen ei tule kysymykseen.

Tämä on salaattien asuinsija. Pohjalla on virtaava vesi ja päällä kasvilamppu.Siinä pysyy vihreät hyvänä ja kasvaa hyvin. Tuo keskellä oleva vähän pyöreälehtinen on kertaalleen syöty matalaksi ja nuo on kaikki uusia lehtiä.
En tiedä paljonko heitän vuosittain pois kupsahtaneita basilikoja ja salaatteja, mutta paljon. Nyt en ole kuukauteen heittänyt mitään.... ja syönyt enemmän vihreää kuin miesmuistiin.
This is were the lettuce live. The water is running on the bottom and then there is a plant light. The plants stay really fresh there and also grow well. We usually throw so much away during the winter but now I haven´t thrown anything away at least for a month. And I have eaten more greens than for a long tme.

Mielestäni kissa on kätevä joululahja, se on helppo pakata pieneen koriin, on pitkäikäinen ja helppohoitoinen. Siitä on harvoin mitään harmia ja huusholli pysyy siistinä. Rahaa noihin ei kulu juuri lainkaan ja kaikkialla on mukavan pehmeä karvapeite.

I think a cat makes an excellent gift for Christmas. It is easy to pack in a little basket. It is long living and easy to take care. It rarely causes any trouble and your house stays very clean. You hardly need to spend any money on them and all your surroundings are nice and soft thanks to fur covering.

Sammuivat - They fell asleep

Sain vihdoin sytytettyä pari kynttilää, koska nuo sammuivat... Omituisen värinen kuva, nuo on punaisia kivituikkuja....
I was finally able to light a few candles because they fell asleep... Strange colours this picture has, red Iittala kivituikkuja....
Yhdellä pennuista on tuollaiset hyeena-jalat ja -korvat. Aika kivat.

Lipstikka - Lovage

Lipstikka, Liperi, köyhän kansan lihaliemi, super-mauste... Iso kasa, riittää talveksi. Tätä voi mätkiä ruokaan kuin ruokaan. Jos joku ei tunne tätä maustetta, niin on aika tutustua. Maistuu aivan lihaliemeltä olematta kuitenkaan mikään E-koodiviritys.

According to some dictionaries this is called Lovage in English. We call it beef stock of the poor... It is a super spice. This big pile in enough for the winter. You can add this to almost any kind of food. If you are not yet familiar with this then hurry. It tastes just like beef stock without beeing full of E-codes.

Tässäpä yritystä... pitsinen bolero ylhäältä alaspäin. Jep. Aika paljon noita karttoja yhtäaikaa luettavaksi... Katsotaan nyt kuinka tässä käy. Aivot aika finaalissa tähän aikaan vuodesta. Tässä pitää esimerkiksi ymmärtää oikean ja vasemman ero ja se meni just äsken ihan väärin... enkä jaksa purkaa. Vaikka pitäisi.

Trying here... lace bolero from the top down. Yes. Quite many maps to be read all at the same time... Let´s see how this will end. My brains are quilte finished by this time of the year. Here you have to understand the difference between left and right and I just mixed them a while ago. And I should rip it... But I´m too tired.
This yarn is a new aquaintance. A new brand by the local yarn store Menita. Cotton Dream 100% Egyptian cotton 50g/120m. Very nice I think, cool and slightly shining.

Life is hard

Elämäni ensimmäinen ristipistotyö esittänee kalkkunaa. Mitä tällä nyt kuuluu tehdä? Ripustaa seinälle? En tahdo semikamalaa kalkkunaa seinälle.
Elämä on tarpeeksi hankalaa ilman tuollaista häiriötekijää näkökentässä. Tänä aamuna ulkona kaikki hiekoitus-sepelit olivat sulaneet jään sisään ja pystyssä pysyminen oli "haaste" = vaikeaa. Pääsin yhtä mäkeä puoleen väliin ja sitten aloin luisua taaksepäin kunnes olin taas takaisin mäen alla. Mene siinä sitten töihin.
Huomenna tulee taas lisää lunta. Hassua?

My first cross stitch is propably a turkey. What do I do now? Hang it on the wall? I do not want the semi terrible turkey on the wall.
Life is hard enough without a thing like that. This morning the ice on the ground had melted and all the sand was sunken in the ice so walking was a "challenge" = difficult. I was climbing up a hill and got half way up but then started to slide backwards until I was back down again. So how do you go to work then?
It is going to be a snow storm again tomorrow. Funny?

Olette tarjonneet elämääni hengitysaukon ja jakamalla asioita tuntemattomien kanssa olen paahtanut läpi arjen ja asioiden. Kun yksi väsyy niin toiset jaksavat. Siksi en aio luopua bloggaamisesta. Kirjoitan vaikka kerran vuodessa jos en enempää jaksa. Tästä hommasta ei pidä ottaa paineita, tämän on tarkoitus olla hauskaa!

That is why I will not give up blogging. I will write once a year if that is all I can. We shouldn´t be burdened by blogging. This is supposed to be fun!

Miehet ovat kummallisia. Joskus. Tai siis useimmiten. Viime maanantaina katsoimme elokuvaa Julia and Juliet. Seuraavana päivänä tulin kotiin ja hellalla istui uusi kiiltävä pata. En ensin edes huomannut sitä, koska se oli niin hyvin maastoutunut hellan mustaan pintaan... Näin vain kortin ja mietin miksi hellalla on kortti...? Oooh! Pata! Joillekin miehille kannattaa näyttää noita leffoja.

Men are strange. Sometimes. Or actually most of the time. Last monday we were watching the film Julia and Juliet. The next day there when I come home there was this new shiny casserole sitting on the stove. I didn´t even see it at first because it camouflaged so well to the black stove surface... I saw the card and was wondering what it was doing there...? And then.. Oooh! A casserole! Sometimes it is worth showing there films to the men.

En tiedä mitään yhtä hyödyllistä kuin hevosen kokoinen ompelutöissä avustava kissaeläin...

Candle time

Kävin äsken ärrällä =postissa hakemassa Wollmeisea ja kukkakaupan ulkopuolella oli seppeleitä. Yksi tarttui mukaan. Olen aina pitänyt ruotsalaisten tyylistä ripustella seppeleitä oviin ja kaapin oviin joulun aikaan... Lisäksi olen heikkona valoon...
Ja itse asiaan, Wollmeiseen. Tein umpimähkäisostoksen, niin kuin Wollmeiselta on pakko usein tehdä jos ylipäätään haluaa jotain ja katsokaa noita. Nam! Ongelmana on, että ne on niin hienoja ettei niistä voi kutoa... Aaaks! Rotan vuosi, Turkkilainen markiisi ja yksi värjäämätön.

I just took a walk to post office to get my Wollmeise and on the way I run into this flower shop that had these round things made of herbs or what ever. I had to buy one. I have always loved the way how Swedish people decorate their doors and cabinet doors with these during the Christmas... I also have weakness for candles and lights.
And then Wollmeise. I bought these with my eyes closed (what is the word??? haphazardly??) as you often have to do with Wollmeise if you want to get anything. But look at those! Yam! The only problem is that they are so fine that I do not dear to touch them... Arrgh!

Malabrigo

Uusi tuttavuus, Malabrigo Lace (ostettu Soukan Menitasta, siellä on vaikka mitä uutta). Kaunis ja pehmeä kuin hevonen, mutta mielestäni vyyhti oli huopunut...? Tai siis se oli huopunut, mutta huopuuko baby merino ylihelposti värjättäessä ilmankin, että kuumenee liikaa?
Olen toki saanut itsekin värjätessä langan huopumaan, sehän käy helposti. Kyllästyt seisomaan kattilan vieressä ja unohdut sitten tekemään jotain muuta. Aikaa myöten nenääsi tulee sellainen tuoksu... hmm? Ihan kuin joku keittäisi jotain? Mutta mitä? Villasukkia? VILLASUKKIA!!!! Apuuuuaaaa.....
Tuollaista huopunutta vyyhteä on ihan mahdotonta keriä, koska lanka on kiinni itsessään/toisissaan ja uhkaa katketa koko ajan. No, onnistuin kuitenkin, mutta aikaa siinä meni.

A new acquaintance, Malabrigo Lace. Very pretty and soft like a horse but I think this hank was felted...? Does baby merino felt too easily even without overheating when dyed?
I have managed to felt yarn in dying my self also. It is very easy. You get bored in staring at the kettle and wonder away to do something else and then forget about whole thing. At some point this smell reaches you... hmm? It as if someone was cooking something? But what? Woolen socks? WOOLEN SOCKS!!!! Heeeelp.....
It is really difficult to wind a felted hank because it is adhered to itself and is about to break all the time. Well, I managed to do it anyway but it took very long.

Tämän orkidean sain 2 kk sitten lainattuani autoa vävypojan vanhemmille ja katsokaa sitä nyt! Piti kokeilla, ettei se sittenkin ole kumia... ei ole.

I got this orchid 2 months ago when I borrowed my car to our son-in-laws parents and look at it now! I had to go and try if it was made of rubber after all... it was not.

Paikallisesta tavaratalosta saa tällaisia, siis Stockmannilta. Kysessä on (kaiketi) tanskalainen tekstiilikokoelma, Pip Studio. Tarttuivat mukaan ohikulkiessa...

These you can get from Stockmanns, the local department store. This is a Danish (I think) collection Pip Studio. They got stuck on me as I was passing by...
Siirappia siskolta Canadasta. Kuulemma jonkun kaverin puista. Kerättyään siirapin oli kaveri pessyt keräämiseen käytetyt letkut ja niitä oli ollut yhteensä 2 km. Ei ole helppoa sielläkään...

This is syrup from my sister from Canada. It is from a friends farm. She told that after collecting the syrup the guy had to wash the hoses he used for the work and there was about 2 km of those. No easy to live there either....

Talvi - Winter

Huopatossut, koristelu kesken...
Tällainen lihanvärinen on aina vedonnut minuun. Mielestäni se on HIENO, tulee mieleen kaikkea eteeristä ja balettia sun muuta sellaista.

Felted shoes, decorating not finished...
This kind of a flesh colour has always attracted me. I think it is ELEGANT, reminds me of everything ethereal, ballét etc.

Täällä on ollut kylmä viime aikoina - 12 ja -20 välillä.
Nyt puut näyttävät jo melkoisen hassuilta nyt ilman lämmettyä.
Koska pakkanen on jatkunut pitkään aiheutti se tavallista pidemmän huopatossujakson. Siis huovutettujen sisätossujen jakson. Ilman noita ei voi nukkua tai tulee kramppi. Niitä oli enemmänkin, samoin villasukkia, mutta ne vietiin ennen kuin ehdin kuvata...
Nuo alla olevat ovat Fritidsgarnia.

It has been cold here lately, something between -12 C and -20 C.
Now that it is a little bit warmer the trees look very funny.
Because it has been so cold for such a long time it caused a longer period of making felted shoes.
You simply can not sleep without those or you get a cramp. I had more of them, as well as socks but they were taken by the family members before I could take pictures...
These are made of Fritidsgarn.

Kalkkuna - a Turkey

Kalkkuna 5,8 kg on uunissa rokotettuna vaalealla balsamicolla ja vuorattuna voilla, sitruunalla, oliiviöljyllä ja rosmariinilla. Mukana on myös sipuleita, hunajaa ym. Älkää kysykykö miten tämä pääsi tapahtumaan... No, mies sai kalkkunan. Kissat odottavat kypsymistä.
Minua muuten ajoi pienenä kalkkuna takaa Korkeasaaressa... Ei se kyllä ollut hän, tuo on ihan viaton. Kosto mikä kosto....

A turkey 5,8 kg is in the oven vaccinated with white balsamico and lined with butter, lemon and rosemary. There is also some onions, honey etc. Do not ask how this happened... Well, my husband got the turkey from someone. The cats are waiting for it to cook.
By the way. A turkey chased me in the zoo when I was little. It was not her though, she is completely innocent. A revence anyway...

Koska en vähään aikaan ole tehnyt mitään tarvitsin jotain pientä ensin lämmittelyksi. Villapeikon blogista löysin omenan villapaidan. Juuri sopiva. Tämä on Novitan silkkivillaa ja reunus Dropsin Kid Silkiä. Molemmat violetinharmaita. Ohjetta ei ole...

Because I have not been doing anything for a while I needed something small to warm up. I found this sweater for an apple in Villapeikko´s blog. Just the right thing. It is silk wool by Novita and the trim (?) is Kid Silk by Drops. Both are lilacgray. There is no pattern....

Rauhaisaa Joulua kaikille toivotan mä. Vetäydyn kohta peiton alle lukemaan Anna Kareninaa, jonka dyykkasin lehtiroskiksesta. Kuka heittää Tolstoin roskiin??
Uuni on täynnä ruokaa, samoin jääkaappi ja parveke. Eiköhän tässä jotenkin pysytä elossa pari päivää... Ajattelin myös vihdoinkin ommella vähän, jos vielä muistan miten.

The oven is full of food, so is the fridge + the balcony. We might survive a few days...
